In rare cases, due to the immune nature of the product, some dogs may experience mild fever, lethargy, or slight swelling and increased temperature at the injection site. These symptoms are rare and can be managed with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

However, the vaccine should NOT be administered to immunocompromised dogs, pregnant or lactating females, or dogs with a history of infectious dermatitis.

Can it be administered to lactating or pregnant females?

No. The vaccine should not be administered to lactating or pregnant females.

How Does the Treatment Work? Does the Dosage Depend on the Dog’s Weight?

Immunocastration is a biological alternative to surgical sterilization. Egalitte works by temporarily blocking testicular function in males and suppressing estrus in females.
The initial treatment dose is two doses 30 days apart. Maintenance is one dose once a year. Each dose is 1ml per application, regardless of weight, age or sex.

How much does the vaccine cost?

The cost of a single injectable dose is approximately 50,000 CLP. Only a licensed veterinarian can administer the vaccine. It is important to note that pet owners should never attempt to apply it themselves, as improper administration can pose significant risks to the animal.

How does the vaccine affect a dog's sexual behavior? Will it change their personality or temperament?

Egalitte, as an immunological sterilization method, effectively regulates the natural sexual behaviors of dogs in heat. This means that typical mating-related actions—such as excessive licking of genitals, urine marking, mounting, roaming, competition with other males, fights, persistent barking, and blood spotting—are significantly reduced or eliminated. Can the treatment be reversed if I decide I want my dog to reproduce in the future? What happens if I stop the annual applications?

Since Egalitte is a biological (immunological) sterilization, the effects can be reversed if the owner decides to restore the dog’s reproductive abilities. Simply discontinuing the annual vaccinations will allow fertility to return over time.

How Does the Cost Compare to Surgical Neutering?

The cost of surgical castration typically ranges from 100,000 to over 400,000 pesos chilenos, depending on the breed, size, and sex of the dog. This procedure is performed once and is irreversible.

In contrast, immunocastration with Egalitte follows a staged approach. The initial cost is approximately 100,000 pesos chilenos in the first year, as the treatment requires two doses to establish its effect. After that, the cost decreases to around 50,000 pesos chilenos per year, covering a single maintenance dose. This continues until the treatment is discontinued or the animal reaches the end of its natural lifespan.

How often should I use EGALITTE®?

The application protocol consists of administering the first dose after sexual maturation (approximately at 6 months; consult your veterinarian for breed-specific recommendations) and the second dose 30 days later. After that, the treatment should be maintained once per year.

How long does it take for a dog to regain fertility after the last dose of EGALITTE®?

Viable sperm production is expected approximately 8 to 9 weeks after the recovery of normal sexual hormone levels. According to the literature, dogs return to normal hormone levels within 12 months. It has been observed that the duration of infertility after blocking gonadal function is generally longer in small dogs than in medium and large-sized dogs.

Is it useful for complying with the Responsible Pet Ownership Law?

At what age should puppies receive the first dose for the first time?

Since the use of ®Egalitte and surgical castration both cause sexual hormone levels to drop to zero, the effects on maturity and development are the same. Therefore, and also considering the vaccination programs for infectious diseases in dogs, we recommend waiting until after puberty (approximately after 6 months, depending on the breed) to administer the first dose of ®Egalitte.

Can it be used on working dogs?

Since it is a biological product and its application is completely outpatient, working dogs, including support dogs, can immediately resume their activities without any issues.

Can the vaccine be administered by someone who is not a veterinarian?
